In follow-up to the stunning news that RF exposure causes adverse health effects to Amateur Radio operators, reported in The Dipole last week, the ARRL has announced a special course designed to help rehabilitate sufferers of what is now known as “Grumpy Ham Syndrome” or “GHS.” Rick Roderick, ARRL President, announced the new program today at a press conference in front of ARRL headquarters in Newington, Connecticut. “The problem with GHS is it affects not only the sufferer, but those around them,” he said. “These people can infect others at hamfests, club meetings, on-air nets, and even those who aren’t Hams who are just visiting to have coffee.” The new course curriculum includes: What is “real” Ham Radio?, Morse Code - Not the only mode, Introduction to the Internet, Upgrading from Windows 95, Desensitization to FT8, Raspberry Pi’s... not food, Frequencies above 80 meters, and Laundry and shirt stain removal (optional credit). It appears the program will be very popular. The first course has already sold-out with many wives buying it for their husbands as a Christmas present.
